Who should choose Pas de la Casa?
Pas de la Casa makes a lot of sense for a sociable group: there’s a lively town beside the slopes, and Grau Roig is your way into the rest of Grandvalira. For a quieter family week, or a beginner course with more choice of starting days, Soldeu is worth a look alongside it.
You don’t have to explore the whole ski area to enjoy staying here. A first-timer might spend most of the week around Pas’s learning slopes while experienced friends head across several sectors. The useful thing is getting everyone’s lessons, passes and accommodation to work together, rather than buying the same package for the whole group.

Where is Pas de la Casa within Grandvalira?
Pas sits at the French-border end of Grandvalira, with Grau Roig as the first connection into the wider area. From there, the network extends towards sectors including Encamp, Soldeu and El Tarter. The operator’s sector-status report lists the Pas–Grau Roig link separately, so it’s easy to check before heading over.
Look at the way home as well as the way out. It’s tempting to keep exploring, but you still need the connecting lifts to get back before they close. Wind or poor visibility can interrupt that plan, however much of the area your pass covers.
Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís are separate mountains again. You won’t reach them by following a piste out of Pas. Our Andorra map guide puts the three operators’ resources together so you can see which one you need.
What is the skiing around Pas and Grau Roig like?
Pas offers a range of piste difficulties; it should not be described as either an experts-only mountain or one giant nursery slope. Grandvalira’s sector guide describes its broad slopes and mixed levels. The live report lists named local pistes such as Escola and Abelletes alongside more demanding routes and the neighbouring Grau Roig sector.
For an improving skier, stay local until the instructor is happy with the next step. For intermediates, Grau Roig provides the first sensible extension of the day. Do not commit a nervous learner to crossing the mountain just because friends have booked lunch in another sector.
Where do beginners learn in Pas de la Casa?
Look at the Abelletes learning facilities and obtain the exact meeting location from the school. Grandvalira’s lift and piste list names the Les Abelletes carpet and drag lift, as well as the Escola and Jardí de neu areas. This gives you a real part of the resort to compare with an accommodation address.
Children’s lesson products are not interchangeable with nursery care. The children’s school information sets out age-specific options. Select the child’s actual age and the Pas de la Casa sector before assuming a service advertised elsewhere in Grandvalira is available here.
How do the 2026–27 lessons and pass rules work?
The published school offer starts adult/junior group courses at €159 and children’s courses for ages six to eleven at €145. These are starting prices for specified course products, not a per-day price or an all-in learning holiday.
At Pas de la Casa, the three-, four- and five-day group courses normally start on Mondays; two-day courses start on Saturdays. Book travel around the confirmed course, not the other way round. A Tuesday arrival does not automatically let a complete beginner join a group that began on Monday.
The cheapest beginner lift ticket is not necessarily valid for lessons. The school requires a qualifying day, multi-day, season or Forfait Plus+ pass and excludes pedestrian, beginner and Mountain Pass products. Equipment is another item to check. Confirm the selected lesson’s pass requirement before paying for a cheaper ticket independently.
Pas de la Casa or Soldeu?
Choose Pas when the lively town, shops and immediate local slopes are the main attraction. The operator explicitly highlights its nightlife in the Pas sector description. That is a reason to shortlist it for a sociable group, not a promise that every hotel room will be quiet.
Choose Soldeu when its village-gondola routine and lesson options better suit the party. Its teaching terrain is above the village, so lift access has to be built into the first morning. Soldeu and El Tarter also offer additional group-course start options and one-day beginner ski sessions, according to the school page. That can matter more than a small accommodation saving on a short break.
Neither resort is uniformly quiet or uniformly beginner-friendly. Compare the exact school, room location and daily access. Read our Soldeu guide for the other side of the decision.
Where should you stay in Pas de la Casa?
Start with the snow-front access around your lesson or preferred lift, then compare the walk from the town’s streets. Grandvalira’s access and parking information identifies Abelletes, Costa Rodona and Centre Esportiu as different reference points. They are more useful than a listing saying only “near Grandvalira”.
For a concrete address example, the operator’s listing for Hotel Terranova places it on Carrer de les Abelletes and describes it as 200 metres from the slopes. This is an example of location information to investigate, not a hands-on hotel recommendation or a guarantee about the walking route.
For a quieter stay, ask the property about the room’s position relative to bars and roads, not just whether it has mountain views. For a learner, establish a walking route to the meeting point; a property that experienced friends can ski back to may still be awkward on day one.
How do you get there through France or Spain?
Barcelona and Toulouse are practical airport gateways to compare with an onward bus booking. Grandvalira’s arrival guide identifies Andbus on the Toulouse route and several operators from Barcelona. Andbus publishes its own timetable and fare search.
Enter the actual destination or request the resort connection: a ticket to Andorra la Vella bus station is not automatically a drop-off at your Pas accommodation. Check whether the itinerary involves a connecting shuttle, where ski bags are carried, and what happens after a delayed flight.
The French approach also needs a current road-status check. The operator’s access page carries links to temporary transport arrangements, so an old transfer-time estimate is not enough. Use Andorra’s official traffic information before driving. Do not choose Toulouse purely because it looks nearer without checking the complete service for your dates.
When is the 2026–27 ski season?
Grandvalira currently schedules the winter season for 4 December 2026–4 April 2027, subject to weather and snow. The official operating calendar is distinct from the daily report of which lifts and connections are actually open.
For an early or late trip, first establish whether the learning area or cross-sector links you need are expected to run. The resort being open somewhere does not answer either question.
Frequently asked questions
Can you ski from Pas de la Casa to other Grandvalira sectors?
Yes, through the linked network when the relevant connections are open and your pass covers them. Grau Roig is the first neighbouring sector to understand.
Is Pas de la Casa only for party groups?
No, it also has lessons and varied terrain. Its lively town is a genuine part of the choice, so families should pay attention to the property’s setting and their school arrangements.
Can a beginner pass be used for Grandvalira school lessons?
The published school conditions exclude the beginner pass. Buy a qualifying product for the specific lesson and dates rather than assuming the cheapest ticket will work.
